Mr. Vaught is the principal owner of EGIS PA, a geological consulting firm, located in Chapel Hill, NC, that investigates water well problems and conducts down-hole camera and geophysical surveys throughout the southeast USA. He is a licensed professional geologist and certified water well contractor that strives to understand water wells, resolve well problems, and provide high quality groundwater to private and public water supply wells. Mike has been employed at the North Carolina Division of Environmental Management, Groundwater Section to perform environmental assessments and site characterizations and manage their geophysics unit. He first used down-hole logging equipment in the late 1970s at the Dresser Atlas Oilfield Services Group and the TVA Engineering Geology and Geophysics Branch. For over a decade, Mike has given presentations on groundwater quality issues, hydrogeology, down-hole camera surveys, well construction, and well rehabilitation to the drilling, groundwater, environmental, and regulatory communities.
Mr. Vaught holds a B.S. in Geology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He is an active member in the Virginia Rural Water Association, the National Groundwater Association, American Groundwater Trust, Association of Engineering Geologists, North Carolina Water Operators Association, and the North Carolina Groundwater Professionals. He is a founding member of the Microbial Ground Water Quality Interest Group Committee of the National Groundwater Association, which is examining the application of the total coliform rule to public water supplies.
